Use Your Energy is an Action Together programme funded by Sport England which works with Tameside groups to engage and enable children and young people aged 5-18 years to become more active, more often. We have invested in your active ideas! Groups have applied for up to £500 to £10,000 to make their active idea a reality.

This group will Set up Wildcats for girls age 4-11 years old to participate in football in a safe and fun environment.

This project is a 6 week after school activity programme to engage the young people and encourage them to take part in physical activity with the lead being a female member of the PE department.

Cedar Park Juniors are regrouping and will meet every week on a Monday in Cedar Park and are aged between 9 – 11.  They are also actively looking to recruit more members and there are also 2 other groups based in the Cedar Park.  The base in Cedar Park is a perfect location to help the children become more active or become active again; given the pandemic, related restrictions, and fears

Outdoor Experience

This project is to get the young children from local schools and those with learning disabilities who come to them during holiday times to experience the great outdoors in as many different ways as possible and have three activities in mind to do this - woodland trails, countryside art and makaton experience.

Get active with FAST Club!

Sports and local walks for children aged 8-12 every Saturday for 5 weeks. They will take young people to local green spaces for an action-packed walk, with team building activities along the way.

The Vineyard

The project aims to involve young people in the design, creation and build of a small community vineyard with a picnic area to encourage more people to access this public space.

The young people will be able to learn new skills as well as being physically active with building frames, planting, maintenance, weeding and eventual picking of the fruit. Over the last 12 months we have seen an increase in young people wanting to get involved with this community space and we hope that this project will get others inspired to get involved

Young Vols

We would like young people between the ages of 14 – 18, who feel the need to be more active, to come to our CREATE Centre in Denton as volunteers and work with our staff and clients in workshops and activities such as dancing, walking, nature trails and helping in our Daisy Chain Café.

They would assist our staff in delivering sessions, to children and young adults with physical and learning disabilities, which are built into a structured timetable of activities throughout the day.

2nd Stalybridge Scouts

Scout Games

A month of sports and games for young people. Our activities will also be transportable so we can host sporting sessions at our Scout Camps.Since lockdown we have noticed a high-level decline in the fitness and activity of our young people, especially the younger generation.  They are also more isolated in their behaviour. 

We will host evenings of uni-hockey, indoor and outdoor tennis, rugby, badminton, handball, volleyball and archery to encourage our young people to be more active and to join together as a team.

Richmond Street Community CentreThere is an activity a day at the Richmond Street Community Centre in late August/September 2021 to let the local community know they have reopened and are active. 
Newton Cricket ClubThis group will provide a weekly training session throughout the cricket season run by qualified CEB Level 2 coaches for children age’s 5 years upwards who do not qualify for our junior sections due to their ages or those under 9’s that are new and not ready for competition level junior cricket.
Hyde Little Theatre 

Project Dance.

Hyde Little Theatre established a Youth Theatre in 2019 from children of members. This group will use the funds to support 20 sessions of dancing and movement that are fun for 1 hour per week.

Community Activities Galore!

This group are looking to deliver sessions of activities and games tailored to attract the different age groups in the community ranging from 8 – 17. These activities and games are ideas from the young people we consulted. For the younger age group, we will organise games / activities like, tug of war, man hunt, filling the baskets, skipping. For the older kids we will organise activities / games like, Arts & Crafts, table tennis, Graffiti art, Running, litter picking, Wellywalks (around the community). We will organise gardening for all the kids. This will provide the opportunity for the older ones to support the younger ones in planting pot flowers and vegetables in the centre. This is a new project with new ideas and they are hoping that this will attract young people and increase the desire for them to be more active.

Ashton Fencing Club

Fencing Fun for the young!

Ashton Fencing Club will introduce the Olympic Sport of Fencing to the children aged between 8 & 11 years old within the Tameside area.This will be a series of Taster sessions which we currently do not offer.

They have identified a need for these taster sessions through direct consultations with school children and through enquires from parents/young people who have contacted the Club.They will be using their Plastic Fencing Kit as this will give the experience of Fencing safely straight away.These sessions will take place at Astley Sports Village.We will be delivering 4 one-hour sessions one per week to be held on a Sunday morning and cater for a max of 12 young people per session.

Friends of Denton Community College

Pride

Friends of Denton Community College  have a well established LGBTQ+ group at college with 24 members and as an after school club run a lot of enrichment activities except physical activity.  The students have conducted a conversation café and discussed different physical activities they would like to get involved with outside of the usual school programme offered.  They would like to engage with Yogalates ( relaxation techniques) to build confidence and get active.  They would then use the exercises from the sessions at home to lead a healthier lifestyle.

The Together Centre would like to take local children out of the classroom and into the great outdoors come rain or shine, to explore the natural environment helping to improve wellbeing, and communication skills whilst making new friends. Just a few of the activities will include; Den Making, Sensory walks, Foraging, Mini beast hunts, Campfire Cooking, Woodwork, Nature Art, Hide and Seek, Grow your own Fruits and Vegetables, Puddle / Mud Jumping.. and MORE!

French Bowls (Pentanque) Project for young people

Denton Park Social Bowling Club  will be organising fun days sessions for French Bowls  for absolute beginners providing tuition lesson with experience players  and coaching classes, this is part of our commitment to making the park area a fun, safe and active place to visit!

West African Development 

Ashton Knights!

The youth sessions at WAD will provide a number of different activities that will get them socially and physically active. These will include keep fit gaming sessions that will engage younger children (Nintendo wii), table tennis competitions and pool competitions along with keep fit classes/dance classes. These session will take place at WAD office which will be provided free of charge. 

Friends of Waterloo

Waterloo Wombles clean up crew.

This group propose to deliver a series of litter picks in the Waterloo area.

These sessions will help in various litter hotspots in the area and will finish at Waterloo community centre, and Richmond Street Community centre, where they can offer refreshments and teach children how to recycle the litter that has been collected so they can take this information home making them not only active but more aware of environmental issues that affect the families as a whole. They will deliver 6 sessions at weekly intervals and hope to attract a maximum of 20 children per session.

Bee- Amazed Musical Theatre Group.

Be-Amazed-Getting Fitter through Dance!

Working with a group of young people Bee- Amazed want to create a new musical that  is based on time travel and the children will step back in time through a grandfather clock into different decades including the 1920’s, 60’s and 80’s.
We will aim to include 60 children aged 3 -18 and available from the Tameside area. Sessions will take place at:
1.    Ridge Hill Baptist Church
2.    Dukinfield Baptist church
3.    Heyrod Village Hall

The end show will take place in Hyde.

Tameside Basketball Club 

Come & Try!

Tameside Basket Ball club will be holding some Come and Try sessions, which will allow children to come along and learn the game of basketball, the sessions will be for children who are new to the game and those who may have some experience but who do not currently play in a team.

LEAP Children, Families & Communities 

Spring Green  

Leap will provide 4 half day workshops for a group of up to 12 Key Stage 2 children and young people (age 7 to 11years) based at their allotments. Here, they will have opportunities to experience gardening and growing, alongside fun physical activities in a natural environment.

Friends of Sunnybank Vale 

Duck Trail around Sunnybank Vale.

The project aims to ensure that the footpaths as part of the Duck Trail are suitable and in a good condition to be safely used by children and their families irrespective of their physical abilities.  It will also make it more suitable for wheelchair users and others with disabilities.

Ensemble TheatreA programme for young people that will also link with an adult’s theatre group to create an intergenerational ensemble for performance opportunities. The aim for the new young people’s inclusive arts programme is to use Dance and the arts to encourage a healthier lifestyle.
Ashton Fencing Club

Coaching for the Future-Kitting out Talent

Over the last 6 months (with the support of UYE) this group have been able to run free taster sessions for previously inactive young people who showed an interest in taking up fencing. Following on from this success they now wish to offer more inactive young people the opportunity to try this activity and need support in equipping our volunteer coaches with the right protective equipment to safely run these sessions. They are also able to offer volunteer opportunities to our experienced young fencers to mentor and develop the new members.

Taster to Tumble

This groups  main focus is to build self-confidence, co-ordination, balance and flexibility through basic skill tumble classes aimed at children aged 5-7, 8-14, 14-18. The sessions will run over 3 weeks, taking part on every Sunday for 2 hours.

Each taster session will be age specific, and we would look to attract a minimum of 15 up to a maximum of 25 dependant on the age group onto the sessions. We will also have our café open for families to stay who have the younger children and also help in bringing communities together. The café will also be open after the sessions have finished to encourage the young people to stay and to meet new people and build on new friendships.

Unity Stage School

 The Evolve Project.

This group will offer free weekly Dance workshop for students aged 8-19 where they are given the opportunity to try a new skill and explore the arts. I would love to see the young people mature over the course of 14 weeks where they would develop their dancing skills in two areas; Commercial and Lyrical / Contemporary. These are contrasting styles and would mean the students could explore movement and emotion through a physical discipline.

Reach ChurchGet Growing is a group which will invite children from a local primary school to get involved in gardening within the Reach Community Garden. The group will be aimed at children who do not usually engage with extra curricular activities and will teach children gardening skills so that they can get out and about helping in the community garden and subsequently gardens at home or in their schools. The group would be aimed at children at Key Stages 1 and 2.

Fit to Garden

This group wish to continue to promote and develop community gardening in Mossley to get the community fitter and healthier. 

Stalybridge Women's Institute

Planters for Schools

This Group is providing wooden planters, compost and plants to 16 primary schools in Stalybridge. Pupils will plant and continue to tend the plants, enhancing environmental awareness through enhanced gardening skills. This is an ongoing project. The planters have been constructed by young people who are students at Works4U, a Centre based in the Ridge Hill area.

Ensemble Theatre Youth-Inclusive arts.

 

Ensemble Theatre Youth – inclusive weekly sessions that build on confidence and self-esteem and encourage young people who struggle to access mainstream provisions to be more active and social. The performing arts workshops will include an hour of high energy dance and groupwork and, one hour taster sessions exploring different art forms. Dance, singing, drama, music, performance, arts and crafts, design/production, and creative writing/poetry and much more.
St Gabriel’s Community Group

St Gabriel’s Community Garden Project

As part of the Community Garden project this group are creating an Environmental Garden for children with an area for growing fruit and vegetables which will be wheelchair accessible, ensuring that the disabled can also be active. Many activities will engage the children including teepee and den building, creating a living willow structure, making bug hotels, bat and bird boxes, dry stone walls, rockery gardens etc as well as digging, planting, watering and caring for the garden.

Phantasmagoria CIC

The Snailybridge Snail Trail

This group will create a story trail around Cheetham Park in Stalybridge that will encourage children and their families to explore the park by looking for snails (printed on composite aluminium boards similar to road signs) that are fixed around the park. The story will be a take on the Hare and the Tortoise but will be the Squirrel and the Snail and will have a message that exploring the park at a steady pace is as beneficial as rushing around.  There will also be a decorated snail hunt similar to Tameside Rocks.

The activities are aimed to be fun for parents and carers as well as the young people.

This group will run weekly sessions for 8-12 year olds to get children active in a fun and enjoyable way. The 4+ hours sessions will include a programme of outdoor activities including hikes, multi-sports days, outdoor activity days and much more. They plan to offer a wide range of activities to appeal to a broad range of interests, ensuring that we are engaging many different children.

This project is to allow the unit to provide camping activities this summer and onwards, attract new members and improve the life experiences of our young people.

St Thomas More RC College

Garden Stewards.

This group will use the funds to development of the gardens will enable pupils to become more active, more often. Providing an alternative for young people to try something new, socialise and get fitter. Preparing the soil, beds, planting, etc increases dexterity and increases strength. In addition, the aerobic exercise involved in gardening can burn calories and provides a real alternative to exercise for young people who do not feel comfortable participating in traditional school sports or attending gyms.  Interactive sessions will be held to plan out growing areas, designing how the plots will look this will etc which will be undertaken in consultation with young people.

Infinity Initiatives Football Club

Move and Grow.

This project is aimed at young people and in particular those who have recently left school or who are going into year 11 in September and who are currently not taking part in any physical activity with the aim of encouraging them to grow to love the sport and to lay a foundation for them to continue to be more active in their adult life.

We will run a development programme which will provide opportunities for young inactive people to learn various skills such as ball skills, teamwork, discipline, communication, peer-work (list pf practical skills below) and a range of academic courses internally and externally led courses to gain qualifications. For those who wish to progress we will provide an opportunity to form a competitive team in football which can also progress into playing as part of an open age team and in time joining the adult team.

Carnival Grooves.

Achieved through a holistic 12 month programme of carnival dance, movement, energetic drumming, increasing young people’s levels of physical activity, supporting their mental health, and helping to build friendships with other young people.

This grant will be used to purchase discounted passes from Active Tameside for various activities and to accompany families to the activities if needed.

They will be led by the young people on different activities they would like to try.

Guide Bridge Theatre Ltd.

“Acting Up” – getting fit through physical theatre

This group will deliver a series of pilot workshops covering a wide range of physical theatre skills as a gateway to encourage inactive children and young people to become more active. Introducing young people to physical theatre can develop core strength, enhance motor skills, improve balance and coordination in addition to the health benefits of total body fitness.

The workshops will be delivered at Guide Bridge Theatre on Monday evenings for the existing Youth Theatre 11-15 age group as a means of expanding their skills through specialist-led workshops, and on Saturday afternoons for 14-18 year olds.

Ashton Fencing Club

Fencing for Children with SEND (special educational needs disabilities)

This group will introduce the Olympic Sport of Fencing to the children aged between 14 & 16 years old who all have a wide variety of SEND within the Tameside area.
This will be a 5-week fencing course.

Doodle Dancing 

Doodle Dancing is a project supporting marginalised neuro divergent young people aged 13-18 to increase physical activity levels and improve mental wellbeing through the use of collaborative dance-based activities. This Doodle Dancing project will provide a series of group dance workshops for 25-30 neuro divergent young people aged 13-18 from across Tameside. The workshops will take place at the Moravian College, Droylsden and Hyde Central Methodist Church

Minibeasts Get Active!

The Together Centre would like to enhance our current provision, by providing an inclusive weekly ‘active’ session for FREE through a rolling syllabus of activities. Activities will include hula hooping, dodgeball, ping pong, football, tag rugby and more!  The Sessions will be fully inclusive and available to our neuro diverse Children, along with those who use wheelchairs or frame provision, as The Together is completely accessible along with a changing places space and disabled toilets – A fabulous all-rounder!

New Juniors!

This group will develop provision and opportunities for a new age group to try cricket - Under 9s to complement their under 11s team, this will form part of a bigger player pathway into the club. They also want to promote our U13s into senior cricket within the next two years. 

Ensemble Theatre Youth

Ready, Steady, Go!

Ready, steady, go!  is an active programme to work on physical activity and improve physical health and wellbeing. Improve confidence and self-esteem and encourage teamwork and individual action plans. The programme of physical activities is to get the young people fitter and active. Young people compared their ideas to  from couch to 5K, others suggested it would be a longer term plan and a lifestyle change. Could we run a marathon one day?

Kids Active Fencing

This new session will take place in a school setting which breaks down barriers as children will be taught in familiar surroundings and you will be using adapted kit which will progress to full swords as they progress. This group intend to provide a 5 week Fencing course to these inactive Kids

Swoosh – Come and Try

The aim is to  engage more girls and and younger children to try basketball, the group will hold come and try sessions, which will allow children to come along and learn the game of basketball, the sessions will be for children who are new to the game and those who may have had some experience before and wish to return. The group hope that these sessions will encourage young people to get fitter, meet new friends and get the basketball bug. They also hope that some of these young people will want to eventually join one of the teams.

Holy Trinity Stalybridge

MERGE-An activity rich crossover youth session! 

The group will use the time between the sessions to have a team game in the downstairs space (initially football or chair basketball).  They will also hope to have a variety of other games upstairs and would love to invest in a table tennis table, so the young people can run off steam. Merge’ will use the two floors of the St. Matthews church hall building

Curzon Ashton FC Community Foundation

Achieve Your Goal

This group  provide disabled children and children with learning difficulties the opportunity to take part in structured, safe Football sessions in a fun and friendly environment. The idea is that children can attend the sessions each week to keep active and participate in physical activity in a social setting, with the view to creating a new football team, to allow those in the sessions to play competitive sport should they wish. The new team would be named ‘Curzon Ashton U16’s PAN-Disability team.

Community Bike Kitchen (trades as Manchester Bike Kitchen)

MCR Shredders – Night Rides 

MCR Shredders will be a series of night rides on mountain bikes with a trailside maintenance element in the middle. Working in partnership with Tame Valley MTB association they will work with 14-18 year olds and guide them around local mountain bike trails under the guidance of qualified mountain bike leaders and mechanics.

The Evolve Project

This group are offering free classes for young people to engage in Dance, Drama and Theatre workshops with people who are industry professionals or who have experience of industry. The classes will cover more in terms of gymnastics, stage combat, musical theatre, lighting, and sound and more. The idea stems from wanting students to be able to confidently express their emotions and feelings through a safe space and the opportunity to try something new and get active! 

Hattersley Football Club

Disability Football – “One Club for all the Community”

This group We will host weekly training sessions under 11s from September - July run by an FA qualified coach who has also been through the FA Disability module to understand the needs of the young people and how to make all sessions firstly enjoyable whilst teaching new skills to aid player development, The new team will play friendly matches at the weekend against similar opposition.
