Road Safety Trust

The Road Safety Trust is an independent charitable trust dedicated to supporting projects and research aimed at making roads across the UK safer for all road users.

Aims/priorities: 

The overall aims of the Road Safety Trust are to reduce death and injury on the UK roads through providing independent funding for research and the development of innovative approaches.

The objectives of the grant programme are to:

  • Generate new knowledge about what works.
  • Translate ideas into new measures.
  • Influence road safety policy and practice.
  • Support partnership working and collaboration.

There are two strands of funding:

  • Major themed grants for projects which focus on a theme each year. In 2022 the Trust invites applications under the specific theme of 'Fitness to Drive'.
  • The Small Grants Programme supports projects on their journey to making a tangible difference on the road

Amount

Major themed grants: between £25,000 and £300,000.

Match funding is required.

Who can apply: 

  • UK-based organisations, public and professional associations, registered charities, and university departments may apply.
  • Private commercial enterprises and not-for-profit businesses will be considered for funding as long as their proposed project is charitable, for the public benefit and in line with the Trust’s funding priorities.

  • The Main Themed Grants Programme is open for applications until 19 October 2022.

Applications are made via the Road Safety Trust’s online application portal, which can be accessed from the Trust’s website. Applicants will be required to create an account and complete a short eligibility questionnaire before gaining access to the application form.
