This September, Action Together are delighted to be launching our new Prevention Networks across the borough of Rochdale.
Delivered in partnership with Public Health, our Prevention Networks are a space in each township, bringing together public sector, VCFSE sector and community leaders to build local relationships, understand the neighbourhood together and share information about Health and Wellbeing.
Overview
We are launching four network events - one in each township to bring together frontline workers from the Voluntary and Health sectors.
The aim of these spaces will be to build relationships between all the people who care about and are working on prevention* in a neighbourhood, so that we can influence local decisions and tackle issues together. These meetings will be the first step towards having a stronger voice in influencing.
We want to welcome anyone who cares about Health and Wellbeing and is passionate about making sure that what you see happening in your community is shared with those who make decisions.
This space will be incredibly useful for frontline workers across the sectors and the insight shared in the networks is going to be fed directly into Neighbourhood Partnership Boards to inform local decision making.
Each Prevention Network will have a theme based on local priorities and our September theme is: Who’s there? Mapping our community assets and looking at the needs of our neighbourhood. Our first session will also be about drawing out themes and ideas for future networks.

Why Prevention?
*Prevention [also called preventive health] is any action taken to keep people healthy and well, and prevent or avoid risk of poor health, illness, injury and early death. Prevention aims to increase the likelihood that people will stay healthy and well for as long as possible.
"One way of improving understanding is for Public Health and the wider council to have a clear awareness of the extensive contribution that VCSE organisations can bring to health and wellbeing development and delivery. The VCSE sector is not a homogeneous group, but includes a range of attributes, capacities and skills. This extends from recognised national experts in a specialist area, to large organisations operating nationally and regionally, to medium-size charities with a strong local presence, to small, volunteer-led community organisations. VCSE organisations are acknowledged as having distinct features which enable it to make contributions to health and wellbeing."
