refurbishment of Armentieres Square benches
Armentieres Square is the focal point of our town, it is a stone's throw from our local shops and cafes and has the scenic Huddersfield canal running through the middle of it Within the Square we have 20 benches upon which the public can relax and take in the scenery. However, these benches are in a poor state of repair - we want to refurbish each bench and restore them sympathetically to blend in with hardwood planters that we have already installed in the Square. In this way, we hope to create a peaceful, comfortable space which will encourage Stalybridge residents to relax and also utilise our local shops We have agreed to undertake this refurbishment project with two local organisations, Works 4U (www.works4u.org.uk) and Men in Sheds (see facebook page; The Shed Tameside at Loxley House) Works 4U offers an alternative to mainstream education for young people struggling to find their way in life and those with special educational needs. Individuals can learn new skills and make new friends in a safe, secure learning environment Men in Sheds seeks to reduce isolation among older local men in the area by offering them social activities to make new friends and projects to utilise their skills

About the host organisation
Hosted by: Stalybridge Town TeamOrganisation Profile:The Stalybridge Town Team is applying for funding to publicise and promote volunteering opportunities in the Town Centre to improve the environment. This includes planting and garden maintenance, a project to refurbish benches in the Town Centre and encourage older schoolchildren to implement their own ideas such as pop-up shops.
Whilst much of this work is outdoors, the Town Team need to improve their hub to support volunteers. We need an electrical supply to do this, to charge equipment and provide lighting to make the hub usable throughout the year.
