The Association of Chief Executives of Voluntary Organisations (ACEVO) and the National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) are working with the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) to develop a framework for a Civil Society Covenant to reset the relationship between civil society and government to create lasting, positive change.
As part of the development of this voluntary sector manifesto, and since the election earlier this year, work has taken place to ensure that sector leaders’ voices are recognised as key to shaping the new direction that government wants to take in establishing a renewed relationship with civil society.
ACEVO and NCVO have worked with DCMS to develop draft high level principles that could form the basis of a covenant framework to define this new two-way relationship, to support collaboration and respect for the different roles played by government and civil society.
Support from Action Together
Action Together has recently participated in 'round tables' with Government Ministers around this manifesto. On 17 October 2024, as a member of NAVCA, Action Together's CEO Liz Windsor-Welsh attended the launch of the new Civil Society Covenant at 10 Downing Street.
Get involved and have your say
The new Government is keen to ‘reset the relationships’ with the VCFSE sector, and wants to hear from smaller, local groups and organisations, as well as national bodies. They are looking for input from organisations and groups of all sizes.
A consultation has been launched to understand what organisations think about the Principles that have been developed, and answer some key questions.
Action Together will respond to the consultation, but it would be great if you could share your views and ideas too.
Follow this link to read more about this and respond directly to DCMS or you can find out more and feed in your response via NCVO here. The consultation period ends midday on Thursday 12 December 2024.
As organisation and group leaders your voice is important in shaping this. Please do let us know if we can help.
