Asylum Seeker Mental Health and Wellbeing, UK-wide Therapeutic Support

Background: The Home Office is committed to supporting and stabilising the mental health and wellbeing of vulnerable asylum-seeking customers to reduce the likelihood of harm to the individual or wider society. Most recently (2022/2025) this commitment has been reflected by the provision of the Therapeutic Support Grant funding. The Home Office is now seeking to build on that grant’s findings.

The Home Office recognises that civil society organisations continue to play a key role in providing services that benefit vulnerable asylum-seeking adult customers. These include providing third party financial, legal, casework and/or emotional support.

This grant will therefore provide the opportunity to deliver on a specific aim which aligns with the Home Office’s goal to protect vulnerable people and communities.

Aims/Priorities: It is expected that funded organisations will achieve the following delivery outcomes, however this list is not exhaustive:

  • Improved Mental Health and Wellbeing
  • Greater access to and use of mainstream mental health provision
  • More access to information and services
  • Improved connection to local communities
  • Improved feelings of safety
  • Asylum Seekers report being better able to participate with their application.

The grant funding is for activities that lead to improved mental health and wellbeing of vulnerable asylum-seeking adult customers, UK-wide. This should not mean rebranding of existing activities but is for new or tried and tested approaches within this space.

These requirements are outcome-based, to be delivered UK-wide and it is for the applicant to develop methodologies based on an understanding of the vulnerable asylum-seeking adult customers they are seeking to support, their ability to positively impact on the mental health and wellbeing needs of the individual and the outputs expected from their project.

Who can apply? We would welcome a broad range of Civil Society Groups to apply for funding through this grant scheme, which may include but not be limited to the following types of organisations:

  • Charities
  • Non-Governmental Aid Organisations (NGOs)
  • Non-Profit Organisations (NPOs)
  • Private Voluntary Organisations (PVOs)
  • Civic Groups
  • Community Foundations
  • Community Organisations
  • Religious Organisations
  • Social Enterprises
  • Support Groups

Bids for funding will be welcome from single organisations or multi-organisation consortiums and partnerships. In the case of a consortium or partnership bid, one organisation shall be nominated as the lead and shall have agreement from all partner organisations before bidding (this agreement should be demonstrated in the form of a letter signed by all partner organisations). The Home Office funding will be awarded to the lead organisation and the Home Office will enter into a Grant Agreement with the lead organisation.
