Wildbrook Crescent - Community Project

Nestled in the heart of Fitton Hill this community project, a partnership between Oldham Council and Local Food First CIC, seeks to rejuvenate a neglected growing space and fruit orchard, as well as repurpose vandalized buildings, all while nurturing the surrounding nature and wildlife.

The main aim of the project is to improve community access to affordable, healthy food, whilst transforming the allotment and hub into valuable community assets. Notably, the food grown on-site supports the Oldham Foodbank and contributes to a local Community Vegbag scheme.

Since taking over in March 2023, the focus has been on maximizing this year’s growing season. Over the Spring and Summer months volunteers have readily been involved with the refurbishing of polytunnels, clearing of overgrown areas, renovating raised beds, and planting a variety of produce. Future plans include renovating the buildings into a community kitchen, teaching space, and meeting area – the potential is huge!

Wildbrook welcomes new volunteers to support with this project and has open sessions every Thursday afternoon (1 – 3 pm) and on the fourth Saturday of each month (10 – 12 pm). Local businesses and organisations are also encouraged to contribute; a great opportunity to give back and support the local community grow.

If you are an individual interested to get involved in volunteering you are welcome to drop-in to one of their weekly sessions, or If you would like any further information about the project you can email the team directly wildbrook@oldham.gov.uk . You can also register through Action Together to support this project as a volunteer
