Aims/priorities: The overall aims of the Road Safety Trust are to reduce death and injury on the UK roads through providing independent funding for research and the development of innovative approaches.
The objectives of the grant programme are to:
- Generate new knowledge about what works.
- Translate ideas into new measures.
- Influence road safety policy and practice.
- Support partnership working and collaboration.
There are two strands of funding:
- Major themed grants for projects which focus on a theme each year.
- The Small Grants Programme supports projects on their journey to making a tangible difference on the roads.
Who can apply? UK-based organisations, public and professional associations, registered charities, and university departments may apply.
Private commercial enterprises and not-for-profit businesses will be considered for funding as long as their proposed project is charitable, for the public benefit and in line with the Trust’s funding priorities.
Applications to the Small Grants Programme will be accepted from local authorities, police forces, fire and rescue services or UK based registered charities, legally constituted not-for-profit social enterprises or community interest companies.
Grant amount: Two levels of grants are available:
- Major themed grants: between £25,000 and £300,000.
- Small grants programme 2023: between £10,000 and £50,000 over 24 months.
Application process: There are two application windows per year:
- The Small Grants Programme is open until 5 May 2023.
- The Main Themed Grants Programme is now closed for applications.
