Kirkholt Walk and Talk Group Receive Rochdale Communities Seed Fund.
The Kirkholt Walk and Talk Group, formed by members of the Age Friendly Project, have been successful in applying for their own grant from Action Together.
The walking group was set up twelve months ago to give members the opportunity to meet with other people, get out in the outdoors and improve their health. They meet every Monday at 11am outside The Strand Community Hub.
Andy Butterworth, a Rochdale Boroughwide Housing Representative (RBH) Body member and a member of the walking group, successfully applied for the funding which has provided members with a coat and an umbrella - ensuring they can get out in all weathers - and has funded a meal and drink for every walker at The Strand Community Cafe after each walk.
Pat, Age Friendly Project and Kirkholt Walking Group member, said:
“The walk lets me get out, speak to people and makes me feel better. I am not just stuck in the house”.
Barbara, Age Friendly Project and Kirkholt Walking Group member, told us:
“It gets me out to meet new people and I really enjoy it. It is good for my health and has helped me reduce my blood pressure”.
The Age Friendly Project is a joint funded project through Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) and RBH which aims to make Kirkholt and Smallbridge a more Age Friendly place to live. The project allows local people to help shape the area they live in and is open to residents and customers of Kirkholt and Smallbridge who are over 50 years of age.

Funding was granted to Kirkholt Walk and Talk Group as part of Action Together’s Rochdale Communities Seed Fund which provides access grants of up to £500 to help support local community groups.
