Aims/priorities: As part of their commitment to address racial inequality in visual art education, the Freelands Foundation and Runnymede Trust published the ‘Visualise race and inclusion in secondary education’ report this year. The report made several recommendations dedicated to tackling the challenges within the education system. The Foundation wishes to act on these recommendations and to this end is offering the Inclusive Practices Fund.
This funding call is for projects that meet one or both of the following areas of interest:
- Investigating engagement – support for boundary-pushing forms and methods of engaging young people in visual art education to reimagine what inclusive engagement could be.
- Nurturing belonging – support for projects that work with communities and artists to challenge existing norms and create inclusive spaces that embrace curiosity and practice care.
Who can apply? Applications will be accepted from organisations that meet all of the following criteria:
- Visual Arts
Organisations including museums, non-commercial galleries, education organisations, studio providers, etc. working in the visual arts with experience of learning and participation work.
- Charitable Status - organisations that have a charitable purpose and are run for public benefit are eligible:
Organisations registered with The Charity Commission for England and Wales, the Scottish Charity Regulator, or The Charity Commission for Northern Ireland.
Exempt charities
Galleries, museums, or organisations part of a Local Authority
Galleries, museums, or organisations part of a larger charitable organisation, such as a university
Community Interest Companies (further requirements can be found in the Foundation's guidance notes).
- Location
Organisations must be based in England, Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland and the beneficiaries of the activity must be in the UK.
Projects which are delivered in partnership will be considered. This might be between a gallery and a school or, group of arts organisations and teachers, for example.
Grant amount: Up to £25,000 per year are available for project durations of one to two years (maximum grant amount is £50,000 over two years).
Funding will be provided no earlier than December 2024. Projects may only begin between 1 January 2025 and 31 March 2025.

- Expression of Interest.
- Organisations successful at Stage One will be invited to submit a full application.
