Baobab Foundation - The Collective Fund

Aims/priorities: Baobab Foundation was created in 2020 with the goal of significantly scaling resourcing to Black and Global Majority communities in the UK, contributing to wealth redistribution, equitable access, solidarity and sustainability.

Funding is intended to grow, sustain and strengthen Black and Global Majority communities that are resisting racial injustice across the country.

Who can apply? The fund is open to both registered and unregistered groups and organisations and individuals who are aged 18 or over working towards racial justice with a clear charitable purpose.

Applicants must meet the Foundation's four principles to be considered eligible:

  • Representation: Groups and organisations have 75% or three quarters of leadership (eg director, founder, leader, coordinator, management or board) that identify as Black African/Caribbean and Global Majority people.
  • Self-led: Individuals, groups and organisations centre and encourage lived experience in their practices and take an intersectional approach to serve the communities they represent. 75% or three quarters of leadership have lived experience of the issues they work on.
  • Services: The main focus of the groups and organisations is to serve Black African/Caribbean and Global Majority communities. 75% of the people and communities accessing the services are Black African/Caribbean and/or Global Majority People of Colour.
  • Purpose: The purpose and practices of groups are intentionally challenging oppressive systems.

Grant amount: There is a total funding pot of £3 million.

Grants of £5,000 to £30,000 per year for up to five years are available.

Application process: There is a three-stage application process:

  • Registering Interest: Deadline 23 September at 23.59.
  • Expression of Interest: Deadline 31 October 2022 at 23.59.
  • Submission Conversation: Expected to take place between 1 and 16 December 2022.
