This role of a swimming club welfare officer is essential in providing a first point of contact for children, parents and adults within the club who have a child safeguarding or welfare concern.

- Tasks: • To attend safeguarding and Time to Listen courses as and when required.
• To assist the club in implementing Wavepower, Swim England’s Child Safeguarding Policy and Procedures document.
• To be the point of contact for club staff, volunteers, swimmers, and parents for any issues concerning child welfare, poor practice or potential or alleged abuse.
• Responsible for ensuring all incidents are reported correctly and referred in accordance with Wavepower.
• To act independently and in the best interest of a child at the club, putting their needs above that of others and the club itself.
• To ensure all relevant club members, volunteers and coaching staff have up to date Enhanced DBS Disclosure. This should be updated every 3 years.
• To ensure the relevant club members have access to safeguarding courses.
• Promote positive team spirit and behaviours, by engaging with the swimmers on a regular basis.
• Working with the officers to ensure Codes of Conducts are reviewed and adhered too.
• Maintain confidentiality and share information on a ‘need to know’ basis.
• Promote anti-discriminatory practice. - Training: What support can you expect from Swim England?
• Access to resources and guidance via the ‘Club Hub’.
• Direct contact with and support from the Swim England Club Development Officers.
• Direct contact with and support from the Swim England Safeguarding Team. - Requirements: Willing to travel by public transport or find own way to volunteering location

• Excellent communication, time management and organisational skills
• Ability to ensure policy and procedures are effectively implemented.
• Hold an up-to-date DBS and Safeguarding certificate. (This will be provided for by the club)
Level of commitment required.
This will vary from club to club but will include attendance at club meetings and dedicated time should any child protection concerns be raised. - Interests: Children, Community, Community centre, Customer Services, Families, Mental Health, Sport
