Following many fundraising events by Tameside Rotarians and Father Christmas, the Rotary Club of Tameside Chair, Yvonne Wainwright-Stringer along side The Worshipful, The Civic Mayor of Tameside, Councillor Denise Ward and her Consort Councillor David McNally presented various cheques to lots of charity groups including the Scouts. The cheques were for Scouts going to the 24th World Scouts Jamboree in West Virginia in the USA and the 15th World Scout Moot in Reykjavik in Iceland for Network Scouts and joint with the Girl Guides. Mark, an Explorer Scout at St Michael's Explorer Scout Unit in Ashton, received the cheque on behalf of the other Scouts, Sophia, Molly and Mark going to the Jamboree along side another 40,000 other Scouts from all over the world.

Mark said, on behalf of the other three Explorers in North Tameside Scouts:

I would like to thank Tameside Rotary for the kind donation to help to go towards our World Scout Jamboree, this means a lot to us, as we have to raise £3,500 each for the Jamboree, it is going to be a great experience for us learning about other people, countries and peace.

The other cheque was for the District Network Scout Commissioner, Charlotte Bird, who along with other Network Scouts are going to the World scout Moot. Alan Fish accepted the cheque, on behalf of Charlotte, from Yvonne Wainwright-Stringer who said:

Scouting is a great organisation for young people and we are happy to support them.

The Mayor said:

I am hoping to learn a lot more about Scouting in my year of office and will be attending some Scout events.

The young people in Scouting do need adult support to get to Jamborees and Moots if you think you could help, there are many roles in Scouting that are not actual Scout Leaders like looking after a HQ, raising money and running a Scout group.
