Rochdale Volunteering | Adeela's Story

Hear volunteer Adeela's story and how Action Together's Volunteer Support Officer, Asma Begum, supported her to find the perfect role for her, where she could be flexible, balancing work and home life with her young daughter.

Adeela initially met with our Volunteering Support Officer, Asma, earlier this year as she wanted to find a role through volunteering that gave her some experience as a Teaching Assistant. Adeela was seeking a role where she could be flexible, balancing her work and home life as she had a young daughter.

Asma successfuly supported Adeela to secure a volunteer position at Girls Friendly Society in Heywood, which not only provided the flexibility she required, but also allowed her daughter to participate alongside her!

Adeela told us; "I feel more confident and gaining work experience, even as a volunteer or intern, can help prepare you for a career in your chosen field and provide valuable accomplishments that you can include on your resume when applying for future positions and I really appreciated how you listened to my concerns and validated me. I feel like I can approach you with any sort of problem and know that you’re invested in helping me find a solution I just want say thank you so much!"

Four months on and flying high!

Asma caught up with Adeela this week at the Girls Friendly Society, where she’s been volunteering for four months now. Adeela was over the moon to welcome Asma to her placement, and it was wonderful to see her in action. Asma joined them all for a particularly festive and creative session, where the girls were decorating paper Christmas trees and cookies!

We were delighted to hear Adeela had received great feedback from GFS Group Leader, Elicia, too:

"Adeela has been a fantastic addition to GFS Heywood. She connects well with the girls, actively engaging with them and supporting them in completing their tasks throughout the sessions. Over her time with us, Adeela has grown in confidence and has even started suggesting activities she believes the girls will enjoy, showing her creativity and initiative.

She is hardworking, always eager to help, and follows instructions carefully. Her dedication is clear - she has never missed a session. I’m excited to continue working with Adeela and to see how she continues to grow and contribute to our group.
