Background: Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council (TMBC) Public Health team are working closely with Greater Manchester Cancer Alliance (GMCA) to engage the community to raise awareness of cancer to highlight early detection, signs and symptoms and importance of screening.
This funding is linked to the timely presentation element of the Cancer Alliance Planning Pack.
The rationale for this is a need to reduce barriers to presenting in a timely way, including:
- increasing cancer symptom knowledge and body vigilance
- breaking down emotional/psychological barriers to presentation
- reducing local inequalities.
Aims/Priorities: TMBC Public Health is seeking to fund innovative and engaging community engagement projects that respond to and address cancer inequalities within Tameside through increasing awareness of cancer and talking about early detection, symptoms and screening.
Who can apply? Groups who apply must be able to undertake the proposed activity in full, provide the required documentation necessary to undertake the proposed activity, and fulfill funding requirements. In line with the terms of the grant requirements, the event/activity/project must take place in Tameside. It must be designed to increase awareness of cancer and talk about early detection, symptoms and screening.
The grants can be used for any activity/event/project that improves awareness of risks, causes, signs and symptoms of cancer and reduces cancer inequalities in Tameside, for example:
- Events
- Exhibitions
- Art
- Culture
- Materials/equipment
- Information sharing
Grant Amount: A total of £20,000 will be available for projects all together. Funds will be used flexibly depending on the number and quality of applications received. There is no maximum or minimum funding budget that can be requested.
As part of the agreement, there will be two funding touch points before the end of the financial year. At least one member from the community group/ VCFSE organisation with funding, cancer leads from the PCN, and Public Health will attend to touch base. Invites will be sent out when locations are confirmed but the sessions will be held:
- Wednesday 15th January 2025 1:30-3:30pm
- Thursday 13th February 2025 8:30-10:30am
