On Wednesday 4 July from 12.30pm – 15.30pm there will be a special event to explain how Tameside and Glossop can have a healthier sugar free future. This year is the 70th anniversary of the NHS and experts believe its facing its biggest challenge ever – the growing health-related consequences of obesity. Tameside Hospital has being playing its part to try to reduce the burden by becoming the first in the NHS to ditch sugary snack and drinks from its restaurant following a staff weight loss trial and changes in its restaurant. The challenge now is to start a bigger conversation to encourage the people of Tameside and Glossop to help themselves - and improve their health outcomes - by cutting back and ultimately cutting out sugar from their diet.

The line up of speakers is impressive and includes:

TV‘s Dr Aseem Maholtra, the leading cardiologist and author
Sandra Rycroft-Davis, founder of Slimpod, which has changed the eating behaviour of tens of thousands of people across the world
Liz Windsor-Welsh, Chief Executive of Action Together
Jane Pilkington, Innovation Lead for Prevention and Deputy Director for Population Health, Greater Manchester Health and Social Care Partnership
Andy Burnham, the Mayor of Manchester and former Health Secretary
Angela Rayner MP for Ashton and Shadow Secretary of State for Education.

The event will be chaired by Karen James, Chief Executive of Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Hospital.

Location: Hyde Town Hall, 10 Corporation Street, Hyde, SK14 1AB.
