Thanks to funding from Rochdale Borough Council, Action Together was pleased to launch the Developing Recovery Communities grant fund. The funding was to support the development and expansion of recovery community and peer support networks to increase the visibility of recovery and support social integration.
Successful projects were required to fall within one, or more, of the following priorities:
- The development and expansion of recovery communities and peer support networks for substance and alcohol misuse in Rochdale,
- To increase the visibility of recovery from substance and alcohol misuse and support social integration networks, or
- Improved networks of social connections so that people facing social exclusion through substance and alcohol misuse have the opportunity to live healthy and fulfilling lives through involvement in a community that supports their recovery, encourages social integration, builds their abstinence and wellbeing and is led and organised by their peers and families
Projects funded by the Developing Recovery Communities Fund:
Member Organisation | Amount Awarded | Investment Projects |
Demesne Community Centre | £5,760 | Demesne Community Centre will continue to run their weekly AA and NA support groups. The groups meet weekly, and have a safe, secure, and private room where they can feel comfortable in sharing their stories and helping each other stay sober and clean. The Centre understands the importance of these groups to our community and people facing issues with substance abuse. |
Roll To Recovery | £2,504 | Roll to Recovery is a program designed to help men and women recover from addiction by learning the art of submission grappling. We deliver a 16-week grappling fundamentals course at SBG Rochdale. Each week we learn and develop a new grappling skill and then bridge the connection between what we have learnt on the day and the correlation to our recovery by means of a peer lead meeting. |
Stand Up Sisters CIC | £6,000 | We will run 16 workshops which explore the theme of “Our lived experience” through the art form of 'Innovative Textiles'. We will be stitching by hand, and by sewing machine, on a wide range of materials. This is not your typical sewing class. It is about freedom of expression, not following a pattern. We will begin each workshop with a verbal question, which supports every voice to speak and therefore to be heard. The project will be led by Trainee Art Therapist, Maddie Smith and Craftivist Artist, Kaz Hope. We will support women to express themselves creatively, to celebrate themselves for their unique journeys. Their strengths and talents, their survival of the rocky road recovery journey. The people who will benefit from this project are women in recovery from substance misuse and their families. |
Tackling Minds | £5,997 | Provide weekly fishing sessions aimed at supporting people in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction. |
The Sanctuary Trust | £4,758 | Last year Action Together provided funding for us to facilitate Recovery Events throughout the year and from these engagements came The Bigger Picture group which is a newly established group facilitated by a collection of people who are in recovery, who have all had experience with some sort of substance misuse including alcohol. The group have confirmed that they would like a running theme to be 'creativity' in their recovery, arts and crafts supplies will be needed for this and at the next recovery event the group hope to showcase some of their ongoing creative creations. This funding will enable the arts and crafts group to run and for volunteers to visit numerous events to promote the group. |
Theatre in Flow | £5,976 | The funding will support the Women's Supper club and enable Theatre in Flow to run an extra session on a Monday morning, specifically aimed at supporting women that are recovering from substance and alcohol misuse. Theatre in Flow will also develop a course which will cover topics such as; healthy eating, healthy relationships, confident communication, accessing support and health networks, personal care and wellbeing and peer support and coaching. They will provide 1-2-1 mentoring and tutorials, as well as the weekly space for connection and support. |
