Action Together has created a one stop Christmas shop for residents and businesses across Oldham and Tameside to find out where they can give help and get help. Action Together believes it is possible to help you strengthen others over the festive season. Together we can help spread festive cheer.

Give help

Volunteering - Do you have some free time over the Christmas period? Want to spread some of that festive cheer? Volunteering is a great way to connect with your community during the holiday season and doesn’t always involve volunteering on Christmas Day. There are lots of activities to support in the run up to and during Christmas, from being an event steward at a local Santa dash or helping at food collections for those most in need over the winter months. Volunteer Centre Oldham and Tameside has gathered local volunteering opportunities. Foodbanks

Oldham Foodbank - Support local families over the Christmas period. Last year through your generous donations the foodbank collected 494 kilograms of food which equated to 617 meals. The foodbank is asking for donations of any non-perishable food items. Please make any donations by Friday 7 December 2018. Tameside East Foodbank - Leading up to Christmas 2018 the foodbank will provide approximately 400 Christmas food parcels to local individuals and families in crisis. Last year it gave a three day food parcel to 382 people as well as a bag of Christmas treats. Tameside East Foodbank is collecting Christmas items again this year to supplement its usual parcels. This really helps to make Christmas more bearable for people in food poverty. Tameside South and Longdendale Foodbank - Would you like to give a Christmas Hamper? Your gift is needed and could make all the difference to a family's Christmas. Tameside Food banks - Please help us support Tameside food banks this Christmas. Click here to download the Christmas food appeal poster which includes a shopping list. You can donate at any Tameside library, or Customer Services, Clarence Arcade, Stamford street, Ashton-under-Lyne. Please drop off donations by Friday 30 November.

Christmas meals - Are you alone for Christmas? You're invited to local community groups and venues

Oldham Parish Church Christmas Film Night - An evening for the young people (Yr 7 and older) of our churches on Thursday 13 December at 7 - 9pm to get together for pizza and a Christmas film. Curzon Ashton over 50s Christmas lunch. On Thursday 20 December, Curzon Ashton is holding an over 50s Christmas lunch, for members of the local community to come and enjoy a three course meal and entertainment at the Tameside Stadium. The Shed, through support from Ambition for Ageing Tameside is planning a free Christmas buffet for older men (50+) in danger of being socially isolated and/or lonely because they live in a household of one and/or are carers for a significant part of their time. It will take place on Friday 14 December at 6.30pm - 9.30pm at St. Mary's Church Community Hall, Talbot Roadd, Newton, Hyde SK14 4GJ. Booking is essential as places are limited. Community transport

Miles of Smiles is a community transport scheme operating for use by residents of Tameside to reduce the number of missed health appointments. Action Together has a team of volunteer drivers who use their own vehicles to take people to and from health and wellbeing appointments. Miles of Smiles’ last day before Christmas is Friday 21 December and we re-open on Monday 7 January.
