Call for research project proposals.

The ‘Ageing Equally?’ research project is focusing on what makes a good place in which to grow older for people who belong to minority communities. Research from the Ambition for Ageing programme has shown that marginalisation is linked to the risk of social isolation.

This programme aims to generate a deeper understanding of what supports wellbeing and what makes places age-friendly for a cross-section of communities of identity or experience within the population of Greater Manchester, in order to prevent social isolation.

As part of ‘Ageing Equally?’ GMCVO is seeking proposals for research projects (up to £8,000 for maximum 9 months).

A support provider to assist organisations taking part in ‘Ageing Equally?’ has now been selected.

LGBT Foundation were also seeking proposals from Equalities Board members for research projects (up to £2,000 for a maximum of 6 months). This opportunity has now closed.

 Call for research project proposals

Are you an organisation:

  • Who can reach and engage with a specific community of identity or experience?
  • Who will work in an inclusive way by actively seeking members of the community who may have multiple barriers and/or identify with more than one minority group?
  • With an interest in exploring the social practices, preferences, desires and concerns of older people and what is useful or inadequate in the places where they live
  • Who can contribute to the learning of Ambition for Ageing by carrying out research in your area of expertise?

GMCVO is seeking organisations with strong links into marginalised communities to put forward ideas for research projects to explore the question:

What makes a good place in which to grow older, for people who belong to minority communities?'

GMCVO is looking for research projects that are targeted at one specific group. This could be in one particular ward or neighbourhood or across multiple areas.

Contract length and value

In early 2019, up to ten organisations will be awarded £500 and offered additional support to develop their proposal into a project that will contribute to the ‘Ageing Equally?’ research.

Up to £8,000 will be awarded for each developed project to be delivered, providing it meets the specified requirements of the programme.

Projects awarded with delivery will take place between April 2019 and January 2020 and will vary in length. Proposals could be for projects that take just one month to complete or up to nine months.
