Aims/priorities: The Esmee Fairbairn Foundation aims to improve the quality of life for people living throughout the UK and takes pride in supporting work that might otherwise be considered difficult to fund.  The Foundation offers grants across the following range of priority areas:

  • The arts
  • Children and young people
  • The environment
  • Food
  • Social change

Funding can be used for core or project costs, including staff salaries and overheads.

The Community Justice Fund

Community Justice Fund

Aims/priorities: The Community Justice Fund has been formed by a partnership of key representative umbrella bodies & a group of independent funders to help specialist social welfare legal advice organisations to cope with the immediate impact of COVID-19 epidemic & lay the foundations for longer term renewal. The Fund is made up of contributions from a range of sources, including the government, and it’s envisaged that funding will be awarded in 2 waves. The first wave, which is now open and will run for 6 months.

BBC Children in Need - COVID-19 Next Step Grants Programme

Aims/priorities: In addition to its regular grant-making programmes, BBC Children in Need is providing the COVID-19 Next Step Grant Programme which is designed to fund sustained responses to the coronavirus/COVID-19 situation.

The funding is intended to help organisations with more complex service adaption, including additional staffing requirements. It is designed to be as flexible as possible, covering a wide range of activities.

For groups that are unable to apply to this first round, a second Next Steps programme is expected to open in October 2020.

Historic England - COVID-19 Emergency Heritage at Risk Response Fund

Aims/priorities: The COVID-19 Emergency Heritage at Risk Response Fund is a £3 million temporary funding stream, which is provided and administered by Historic England.

The funding is intended to help fund urgent maintenance, repairs and surveys at some of England’s locally cherished historic buildings and sites.

The Charity Service Grant Fund

Aims/priorities: The Grant Fund is provided and administered by the Charity Service, a registered charity supporting third sector organisations in Greater Manchester. The funding is intended for local organisations working with people who are disadvantaged, sick, infirm, or living in poverty in the area.

Who can apply? Registered charities, community interest companies (CICs) and voluntary organisations are welcome to apply. Multiple applications from one organisation will be considered although these must not be for the same purpose.

Asda Foundation - COVID-19 Healthy Holiday Grants

Aims/priorities: The ASDA Foundation's grants programmes aim to support grassroots charitable organisations working at the heart of its stores' communities with initiatives that will make a real long-term difference, benefiting the wider community. Healthy Holiday Grants are designed to support charitable groups that typically would be holding summer holiday activities to ensure children are provided with a hot meal.

They welcome applications for all charitable purposes however they wish to focus our support on  4 priorities – emergency support for vulnerable families & children, reducing social isolation, preventing homelessness and improving access to employment. 

Government Opens Second Round of Emergency Funding for Domestic Abuse Charities

Aims/priorities: The Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government (MHCLG) has secured £10 million as part of a £76 million Government package of support for the most vulnerable in society.
