Sir Jules Thorn Charitable Trust - Innovation and Improvement in Health and Care Fund

Aims/priorities: The funding will support care for any area of physical or mental health or disability as long as the project demonstrates that the investment will translate into improved outcomes for people using the service, enhance access to services or improve their resilience. The Trust will look to support projects which are either scalable or replicable by other organisations, and therefore have the potential to deliver benefits beyond a single setting.

Who can apply? The programme is open to registered and exempt charities in the UK and to NHS organisations. Support for human health and care must be the primary focus of the lead applicant’s work

Applications will also be accepted from UK universities which work in partnership with charities or the NHS to support innovation and improvements in health and care.

The lead applicant should be an established centre of excellence or have the potential to become a leader in its field.

Applications will need to demonstrate:

  • The organisation’s track record in developing new models of health and care and/or providing high quality care for its beneficiaries.
  • How the application relates to the organisation’s wider strategy.
  • The organisation’s commitment and ability both to sustain and disseminate the work funded by the Trust.

Grant amount: It is anticipated that awards will be in the range of £150,000 to £500,000.

It is unlikely that the Trust will support a project under £100,000.

Application process: There is a three-stage application process.

  • Stage one - Expressions of interest (EOI) are conducted via a Teams call with the Trust staff. Appointments are available for booking online until 16 February 2024 (extended from 31 January 2024).
  • Stage two – Organisations who were successful at stage one will be invited to submit a preliminary proposal. All preliminary proposals must be submitted using the online application form, which will be available with a link given to invited organisations by the deadline of 29 February 2024.
  • Stage three - Applicants whose proposals are shortlisted by the Trustees will be invited to make a full application by 31 August 2024.

Application guidelines can be found on the Sir Jules Thorn Trust website.
