Greater Manchester – Cancer and Inequalities Fund

Aims/priorities:

This fund aims to support projects that will help increase early cancer diagnosis rates in communities that are at higher risk of a later-stage diagnosis and will educate and raise awareness of the early signs and symptoms of specific cancers, engage their communities in conversations around these cancers, and how to access timely healthcare.

Funding is for projects that support early cancer diagnosis amongst groups that are at higher risk of later-stage detection and diagnosis:

  • People from lower socio-economic groups.
  • People with learning disabilities.
  • People with sensory and/or physical disabilities.
  • People with mental ill-heath and illness.
  • Racially marginalised communities.
  • LGBTQ+ communities.
  • Older people.
  • Men.

In this funding round, projects should focus on one or more of the following types of cancer:

  • Upper GI (oesophageal and stomach cancer).
  • Lower GI (bowel cancer).
  • Urology.
  • Lung.
  • Breast.
  • Gynae (ovarian cancer).
  • Head and neck cancers.

There is also a focus on projects that work with or include local healthcare systems. This could include inviting professionals from a local GP practice or PCNs to attend any proposed events.
