• Horticulture: gardening at The Growth Project Rochdale

We take anyone throughout the borough who is referred through Mind as long as the person is physically able to work in horticulture. Our site is central to the town centre and is over an acre in size we grow all our own food, which is taken from seed to table. We grow cut flowers and have herbaceous borders and a large wild flower meadow. We open once a year to the general public under the National Garden Scheme (https://ngs.org.uk/view-garden/33364/) and have one outstanding for 7 years on the run in Britain in Bloom.

    Organisation Profile:

We are a partnership with Rochdale and District Mind who have been working at Kellett St Allotments for over 10 years working with people with mental health issues who grow and eat the vegetables produced on our site of over an acre. We are also part of Rochdale in Bloom and The national Garden Scheme. We take service users recommended via Mind to work on the allotments, who not only grow all the produce but have built the whole site including glass houses, a polytunnel, shelters, wood working environment and craft spaces. We are a not for profit organisation limited by guarantee, with 5 directors. Only one member of staff is paid one day a week all the rest of the work for the project is voluntary, we are currently partially funded through Rochdale public health and through our profit making organisation DistanceLearningCentre.com
